IMPROV FOR ACTORS – A Practical Approach, with Marc Moritz

Improv is the number one thing asked for when auditioning for commercials and looking for representation.

As every savvy commercial actor knows, many auditions are strictly improvised and in order to BOOK, you need to have these skill sets!

Learn how to better think on your feet, be more spontaneous, and come up with innovative solutions

Throughout the class we’ll cover:

-How to use improv to showcase your own personality/Thinking quickly on your feet
-Working on different types of commercials (spokesperson, two-person, solo spots, etc.)
-Using improv to make the script/copy your own
-How tone can inspire your improv within the spot
-Audition prepping under a tight deadline
-Using improv skills when the commercial only uses physicality and no dialogue
-How to do self tapes when you don’t have time to find a reader
-Creating an instant character fully realized at a moment’s notice and much more!

Important: This class is offered at two different levels. 

Level 1 will be your introduction to the techniques of improv.

The GYM will be a monthly continuation of our combined work, with a focus on strengthening and deepening our acting/improvisational muscles and working on our core spontaneity. 

The gym is open to anybody who has completed the Level 1 course.

Marc MortizABOUT MARC MORITZ (AEA): Marc originated the role of Talk Show Host in the Broadway production of the Stephen Sondheim / Hal Prince Musical, Merrily We Roll Along. Other roles include Mushnik (Little Shop of Horrors), Turpin (Sweeney Todd) , Mister Mister (The Cradle Will Rock), Mysterious Man (Into The Woods), Chairman (Mystery of Edwin Drood), Grumio (Taming of the Shrew), Ezekiel Cheever (The Crucible), Redlich (Bell, Book, and Candle), Malvolio (Twelfth Night), Caius (Merry Wives of Windsor), Claudius (Hamlet) , Joe Boyd ( Damn Yankees), Interlocutor (The Scottsboro Boys), Murray (The Odd Couple) , Sheftel (Yentl), Otto Frank (Diary of Anne Frank), Emperor Joseph (Amadeus), Touchstone ( As You Like It) , Old Shepherd (Winter’s Tale), Al Lewis (Sunshine Boys), and Roger (She Stoops to Conquer).

Marc was the Founder / Director of Cleveland’s successful Improv Troupe – GIANT PORTIONS. He has taught Improv at ImprovOlympic and Second City in Chicago, and throughout the country. Marc has taught acting at AMDA and CAP 21 in NYC and was a Guest Artist/ Instructor at Cornell. Marc has also taught acting and communications at John Carroll University and Lakeland College. He is the Vice-President of MainStreet Musicals ( http://www.mainstreetmusicals.org) , A New York-based based organization committed to nurturing new works regionally which boasts a board that includes John Lithgow and Patti Lupone.
